Xiaomi Mi 5 Probably Arriving In January, On Sale In February

Xiaomi Mi 5 is definitely one of the most talked about devices lately, at least in tech community circles. This smartphone has been in development for quite some time now, and the vast majority of people were expecting it to be released back in July. We’ve seen all sorts of leaks when it comes to this phone, and even the company’s CEO talked about it yesterday. Lei Jun basically said the Mi 5 is worth waiting for, though he did not share any specifics. Well, we now have some additional info shared by the company’s CEO, read on.

Lei Jun said that Xiaomi actually works on a device for 12 to 18 months before they release it, which means that they start working on a next-gen phone even before they release the current-gen one, more or less. He also said that he’s currently using the Mi 5, and that it’s ‘amazing’. Lei Jun was, once again, non-specific, he did not reveal any specifics as to where to expect this phone to be released. Well, it’s pretty much obvious that this handset won’t be released before the end of the year. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 & Mi Pad 2 event was called the ‘Grand Finale’, which suggests they don’t intend to hold yet another such event this year.

That being said, a China-based analyst, Pan Jiutang, has released some Mi 5 news as well. According to him, Xiaomi will release the handset in January, and will start selling it to consumers after the Sprint Festival in February. Pau Jiutang has also added that Xiaomi will have plenty of stock to sell, which means their factories are quite probably already manufacturing the device or will do so soon.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will probably be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC which will become available in January. The device will sport a 5.2-5.5” display along with 3/4GB of RAM on the inside. The phone will probably be made out of metal, and you can also expect a fingerprint scanner to be available as well. The ‘Force Touch’ display was also rumored, but we don’t know how legit that info is at the moment. That’s pretty much it, stay tuned for additional info, we’re pretty sure more rumors / leaks will surface before Xiaomi announces the device.
